Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., report hav&g conducted on Thursday last, the 28th nit., an important sale of surplus stock on behalf of the Mo* Flat Estate Company (limited}. A total cJearance of the 20,324 sheep was effected in a little over half an hour. It is safe to say that a finer Tot of sheep for breeding and uniformity could not be found anywhere, and they were all brought out in great condition. It will be noticed that the prices realised were not so high as those obtained elsewhere at recent clearing ■ales. «This is.accounted for by an almost entire absence of demand from Canterbury buyers, and a reluctance on the part of Otago and Southland "buyers to par the extreme rates recently ruling for sheep.

THE ASHBTJBTOff STOCK MARKET. Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, May 2. At the Tinwald saleyards to-day the entry comprised 6000 sheep and 200 head of cattle. Fat sheep sold at Is .per head in advance of last week's rates, but store sheep met with a dull sale. Beef was particularly unsaleable, while store tattle showed a decided drop on late rates and met with ft poor demand.
