RESISTING THE POLICE.

A njan named Joseph Farrelly was being arrested for drunken: ness when he became violent, and the constable called for assistance, and a man named James Knowles proceeded to help him. Farre'ly knocked Knowles in the face, and a crowd' which had collected hustled Knowles and the policeman, and Farrelly got'away. Later on Constable ErEon appeared, and with Constable Mellsop found Farrelly in a yarcl- off Hardlnge road. The man again turned on the constables, biting and kicking furiously, while a crowd which had. collected ridiculed and hooted the police: After a time Constable McAlister came on the scene, and Farrelly: was overpowered./" Constable Mellsop the back of one of his hands'badly-mauled by the man's teeth. Farrelly iwas to-day fined a total of £6 and ctets 'for disorderly conduct-and resisting the police. :
