HOKITIKA, May 1. .A very large and representative public meeting, including delegates from Canterbury, Nelson, Westport, and 1 all the' other West Coast centres was. held in the Town Hall this, evening for the purpose of urging upon the Government the necessity of proceeding with much greater .speed with the -Constructioa- of" the midland_2iailway and to- let the - tunnel - -It--was stated that;the exports from-the West' Coas£ last year exceeded , in .value one million, and • were-likely to :be doubled when; ■tfte railway was completed. All the speakers including several members ; of "Paflia; inent were in favour of borrowing'-a suffii cient amount to finish all the main trunk lines. '. The meeting was the most enthusiastic ever h'eld here and iit was resolved to' continue agitating till the wishes of . the. people from Canterbury and Westland were .complied with.. '• -
