THE TIMARU CLUB. At the meeting of t-ae Council of the League of Wheelmen, at Christchurch, on Wednesday evening, a good deal of correspondence- was received \ from the Timaru Motor .and Cycling Club in regard to the circumstances which had induced it - to abandon its proposed sports meeting to have been held next month. The Club stated that.it had put on a first-class programme, with the idea of inducing all the best riders -to compete. Several of the "cracks" had, however, demanded free, entry for the various events, and this the Club had refused to concede. It considered, that- the. altitude, of the "cracks mentioned had h?C& so utterly unfair and unsportsmanlike that the Club would be submitting to their dictation.. - It had decided to abandon the meeting, and to lay the ~faets before the League. During discussion it was stated that there were no rules which prevented riders from asking for free ehtry, but . that riders who were allowed" to start without first paying entry fees could, in ;the case of 'their uiunmg, be successfuUy protested againstby made that' appearance money might be granted where a club wars in favour of doing so, but only' when sanctioned by i the Council. This would allow the Council to deal with all cases on their merits," (and would lead. to.the. protection of sports promoters. It was unanimously decided—That -this Council expresses. its approval of - the course followed -by the Timaru Motor : and Qycle Club, -and regrets that the action, of certain ridera necessitated the cancellation of- that Club's meeting. Further that the Club should be notified that a sew rule to meet future'cases will be forthwith inserted." Sir Boyd then gave notice to more—" That no rider uliall receive appearance money "without the express sanction of the. Council' having, been previously obtained." ; .
