Per Press Association. THAMES, JVlarch 23. A serious mining -accident occurred in the Waiotalii Mine last night. Three men, named James Jeakfcs, yFjllianj McConce'l and Vercoe, were working in a drive. Having put in two shots, they waited for them to go off. Evidently one shot missed, for on going {jack to continue their work an explosion occurred, and both men received considerable injuries. Assistance was at once obtained, and they were taken to the hospital. On examination, it was found that McConnell, though badly cut, was in no immediate danger, hut the injuries to Jenkins were far more- serious, and it is feared that his eyesight wi!lbe affected by the. force of the explosion. Vercce received slight injuries. This morning the hospita? reports were to the effect that both menhad had a good night. Jenkins is in a serious condition, though his recovery is probable. WHANGAREI, March 23. Robert Douglas, aged fortv, son of the late Sir Robert Douglas, of 6lenberrie, fell from a Karalca tree on Monday, while cutting branches for cattle.
