President Roosevelt, in a.special message to Congress, urges the appointment of six commercial agents to visit the various countries and-study their industries: so "as to -be- able new methods— for stimulating American -trade. In his message at the opening of Congress in- December last, President Roosevelt sajd:— ■ "Great corporations are necessary, and only men of greatj and singular" mental powet can* manage such corporations successfully, and such men must liave great rewards. But these corporations should be managed with due regard for the people as a whole. "Where this can be done under the present laws it must be done. Where these, laws .come short others should be enacted to supplement.them. Abole all. else, we must strive to keep the highways of commerce open to all on equal terms, and to do- this- it is-necessary to put ai complete stop to all re"bates The import ance of securing proper information and data with a new to the enlargement of our trade with Asia is undiminished. -Our Consular representatives in China have strongly urged a place for permanent displays of American products in some prominent trade centre of that Empire, under Govern-1 merit control and management, as an effective means of advancing our export trade therein.
