The Mikado sent his armies nine cartloads of presents. Colonel Gasdke, writing to the "Standard," considers .that by the end of January -General Kuropatkin will- have at his disposal" 340 battalions as against 268 by the Japanese; He thinks patkin may try to turn, the Japanese right flank, and so cut fhem off from" Korea. He addsj.that the Japanese jubilations and talk of-peace are quite premature.
