DRUNKENNESS. . Thomas Carter was charged with having been in. a state of helpless drunkenness at Gleniti at 7.30 a.m. that day. Sergeant Crawford asked for a remand for medical treatment. Mr J. Hole, J.P., stated that was applying for a -prohibition order againstaccused, who was a neighbour of his.. He had been drinking heavily, and was a source of great annoyance to the people of the locality, and - repeated -warnings had had- effect "upon him. ._ As accused was not deemed to be in a fit. state to oppose or agree to the order, the matter was "held "oyer till Tie comes up on remand, in a week. CRUELTY TO A HORSE.
Archibald and Duncan Graham were charged with working a horse while it Suffered from sores.
! Sergeant Crawford explained that as the first named defendant, the father, admitted having instructed D. Graham, his son, to work the horse, the charge against the. latter would be withdrawn. ■ Constable Lewin stated that on December 30th he went to defendant's farm and saw the horse, which had a large open raw- sore on each shoulder,- beneath'the collar. He ordered it to be turned out, and this was at once done. Defendant stated'that he was behind with his work at the time, and was unable to replace the horse with another, though he knew it, was not in a fit'state to be worked. Defendant was convicted and fined • 10s and costs. ALLEGED ASSAULT.
Peter Docherty was charged on the information of Alfred Llewellyn Hurdley with assault. Mr Moore appeared for the prosecutor, and stated that he was. at. present unable to leave 'his bed. Counsel asked that the case be adjourned. Mr C. T. H. Perry, who appeared, for defendant, having no objection, an adjournment was made till Monday next. The Court then rose.
