ANNUAL': MEETING;

The annual meeting of the Timaaru Rifles wag held in the lecture room at the' Drillsbed'lost evening. There were about 40 members present, and Captain Beckingham presided: .The chairman made a few reimarks congratulating the corps .on its. progress and 'present condition; thanked the members for the way they had attended drills; and remarked;, that their financial position* was satisfactoiy, all liabilities had been met, and they started the new year with a credit balance.

Private Niall, secretary to the Shooting Committee, read their report. Although good 'shooting ■ had been done -|n some of , the-prize matches,' the teams had not kept ' up the reputation of the corps in foreign matches, first 'and second teams having been beaten by Kaiapoi, and one jteain I beaten by Waimate. A match with the Dunedin Rifles could not be arranged. Private Baird won the cup,, and Private WorsIcy'the second-class medal. Private Macdonald again, for the fifth year in ,succession, won the champion aggregate prize, beating Colour-Sergeant Higgins by one point."? Private Baird won the general aggregate, and Private C. J. Holdgate ex-Captain^White's"'challenge' cup. The committee thank the townspeople for many valuable, prizes given. Suggestions weremade for improving lh,e system of class and practice firing. The balance sheet shows a, total expen-. ditme of £lB2 19s, and a credit balance of £4 3s 7d;' and a, balance of £8 odd in favnur of-the corps in the assets and liabilities account.
