CLEARING SALE AT OPAWA STATION.

The clearing sale at Opawa was continued yesterday, when the cattle and horses were disposed of. The sale was again favoured with beautiful weather. A special 'train was again run from. Timaru at 8 a.m. It was not so well patronised as the special of Thursday, but a good number of people had stayed at Albury , all night, and. the attendance yesterday was very good, though not equal to that of Thursday. The horses were stabled and the youngsters yarded for inspection prior to the sale, and they were all in ' the pink of condition, the "draughts especially, and they were greatly admired as a collection for one estate, and individuallv. The prices realised give some indication of their quality, or of the competition foi them, this being suggested hy the number of different purchasers. The highest prices were two at £55 and one at £56. There was a large muster of cattle, and there cannot be many stttions able to show a mob of such high quality. Both shorthorns and Herefords were in fine condition, thanks to the splendid grazing season in the district, the youngsters looking particularly well. A glance at the prices will show that the cattle were well competed for. The arrangements during the day were similar to those of the preceding day, the auctioneers, Messrs Lowry and Mnndell, taking turn about, and no time was lost in getting the various classes of stock ready in the order of the catalogue. At the conclusion of -the sale of live stock a quantity of harness >and a few sundries were disposed of. Mr Rutherford was verv much pleased at the success of the sale, and the prices obtained throughout were most satisfactory. | It might be mentioned that buvers were present from various parts of the South Island, and an idea of their number mav be obtained from the fact that Mr L'udd" caterer, for the two days used bttween 40O.and 500 loaves of bread for sandwiches and 4501bs of cake, while on tne first day 200 gallons of tea were drunk. The sale yesterday was begun at noon and concluded at 4.16 p.m. The following I are results:—
