PLEASANT POINT STOCK SALE. There was a medium entry of both sheep and cattle at the Point yams yesterday. Fat ewes were in particularly-good request by the butchers and sold welt under keen competition. Prices obtained were as follows :—Extra heavy very prime ewes 18s 6d to 19s 6d; medium fat. ewes, 14s to . 15s 6d; lighter weights, 13s to 13s 6d; fat and forward wethers, 15s 6d to 16s 6d; forward . conditioned wethers, 14s ; good three-quarter bred hoggets, 10s, 10s 6d, 10s 9d to lis; medium hoggets, 9s to 9s 6d; small hoggets, Bs.. Cattle— Light, weight fat heiiers, £7 to £7 10s-; 2-year-old stores, £3 10s to £4; 18-months' old cattle, £3 to £3 ss"; yearlings, 35s to £2; dairy cows in profit and near calving. £6 10s, £7 to £7 10s.

THE HOME MARKETS. Messrs Dalgety and Co. report -under date, London, September 26th, as follows: —"Tie wool market is very firm and prices are higher, especially for good merino wools fairly free from faults, but faulty merinos, pieces, bellies and locks (scoured) are relatively neglected. Prices of fine crossbred wools hare gained further ground, while greasy crossbred, medium qualities, are higher by 5 to 7 A per cent." London, 27th—" The butter market is strong with an upward tendency." The Ajjent-General's cablegram dated London 26th, is as follows :—" There is no alteration in prices of mutton or lamb since last week. Beef is firm. New Zealand hinds, sd; fores, Butter is firm; Danish, 118s; Canadian and Siberian, 955. There is a good demand for cheese; Canadian, 50s. There is a better demand for hemp; good fair Wellington on spot, £33 10s per ton; October and December shipments, £32. Cocksfoot is firm, but buyers are not keen; New Zealand 171b standard, 54s per cwt. There is keen competition for all good-wools." MR RUTLAND'S REPORT.

Rutland, auctioneer, Church street, reports upon last week's sales asr follows Thursday, at tie residence of Mrs Wakefield, Elizabeth street, he held a, clearing sale of household furniture and effects, which attracted a good attendance of buyers. The numerous lots submitted meb with keen competition, and were all disposed of at full auction values, results l)eing satisfactory to the vendor. The ■usual weekly Saturday sale was well attended, and considering the rough weather of the previous day, entries were fairly numerous. Poultry, for which the demand' is greatly in excess of the supply, s" T d at—Roosters, 3s 6d to 4s; hens, 3s, y « 3d and 3s 6d; ducks, 4s per pair; gee.j and turkeys wanted; also p'- enquii for young pigs. In produce, -it straw chaff, 13d; seed Derwents, ss; table do. 6s 6d to 8s; kidneys, 6s; oats, 8s; barley, 10s per sack, all sacks in; eggs, per doz ; bacon, 5d per lb. THE OAMARfe- MARKET. ("North Otago Times/') The, week has been a very quiet one m the local market. Millers are holding off wheat at the piesent time, and there is no enquiry from outside. Though the orders for feed oats placed in the south have created no little interest, there have been only very limited enquiries for such lines, and no sales for export aie reported. Potatceu have improved in value, and there has been a lit-iia excitement about them on account of the state of the Dunedin. market, but there are indications of an easier feeling at the end of the week, and holders who were mentioning outside prices have accepted £4 10s on sidings, subject to commission—that, in fact, is reported as being the best pike obtained during the week. Other lines remain unchanged. -Wheat (new) —Velvet and Tuscan, prime bright, 4s Id to 4s 2d; good velvet and red chaff, 3s lid to 4s ; medium mining, 3s cid to 3s lOd; discoloured or damugei wheat for fowl feed, 2s 8d to 2s lOd, and 3s better qualities.' Oats—Danish, good, 2s 3d to 2s 4d : Gartons or short feed, 2s 5d to 2s 6d ; milling, 2s 6d ; seed oats, 2s 7£d to 3s ; dis«o!oured and damaged samples, 2s to 2s ti, according to quality. Barley— Prime malting. 3s to 3s 2d: medium, 2s 6d to 3s; feed, 2s 3d to 2s 6d. Potatoes— Derwents, £4 5s at sidings (sacks in, net).
