AN INTERESTING ADDRESS. Per Pre,?? AssociatiPU. NELSON; March 7. At the annual me6!i!i<i f;i ihs Chamber of Commerce, the retiring President, Mr C. Y. Fell, delivered an interesting address. He said that the fall in the pi ices of their staple products meant a severe loss to the colony, which must be felt, and be attributed the greater activity that now generally prevails as being the result of a feeling that.all rm'st rise to the occasion and meet the difficulty. Tn that view he spoke hopefnlly of the future. He spoke of the labonr question, and sail that he felt the helping hand to labcr had reached or nearly reached its estremest limit: that if the worker were well advise 1 they would see that thev did s'rain t'.'°. bond between labour a'nd capitil to breaking point, Jar they were in competition with people who worked longer hours and who Tvere temperate. He urged that workers and employers must work hand in hand. He s;>c-k' .with satisfaction of the attitaia taken vv bv the colory in helping to hear fie burdens of the Old Countiy, but reminded his hearers of the new responsibilities involved.'
Mr S. Kirkpatrick was elected chairman for the ensuing year, and Mr Banneher vice-chairman.
A motion in favour of the metric system was adopted unanimously.
