Levels C'owity Council Offiire*—Farmers' Union at 3L30 p.m. The Philadelphia (U.S.) County Council has appropriated £20,000 for the erection of a new hospital for consumptives, designed by Dr Shoemaker, a well-known American physician. It will be connected with the city almshouse, and will consist of eight large pavilions with a framework j of steel and the walls and roofs entirely of glass. This will enable the consumptives to enjoy the sunshine on clear days. Five hundred patients will be accommodated. These will be divided among the pavilions according to the stage of the disease. Practical isolation for each patient will be effected by a novel system of ventilation and the constant generation of ozone. There will be static electric batteries in all the pavilions to invigorate the air and destroy all the germs of tuberculosis. The patients will practically breathe rarified air. such as is found at great altitudes, which physicians say is a deadly foe to tuberculosis. Remarkable
