A meeting of the citizens will be held on Monday afternoon to arrange a complimentary social in honour of the approaching departure to London of the Premier to attend the Coronation of the King. It is proposed to arrange for the gathering to--take place about the time of the Ninth Contingent leaving Auckland. The Mayor will preside. \V ELLINGTON, January 31.' CHRISTCHURCH, January 31. At the Ironworkers' Association this evening a discussion took place concerning dredge contracts. A committee was appointed to draw up conditions of contract, ■with special attention to the inclusion of the arbitration clause. The Association passed a motion regretting the action of the Government in calling tenders for railway waggons in the colony at £106; and at the same time placing an order with Home firms at a higher price. It was stated that the total cost of English waggons when placed on the rails would be more than £l7O.

DUNEDEi", January "31. Dr Erick Pistor, representative of the Minister of Commerce of the Austrian Government, is at present in Dunedin. His object in visiting the colonies is to study their commercial conditions.
