SYDNEY, January 31. In reference to the Right Hon. Mr Seddon's speech on the preferential treatment of British manufactures the " Daily Telegraph" says that Mr See was unable to find time yesterday to express an opinion on so important a question, so the New Zealand Premier is again first in the field, as he was over the meat contracts. THE MILITARIST INFLUENCE. The Labour members see, in the appointment of Sir Harry Rawson and Sir 0. Sydenham Clarke, a deliberate scheme on the part of the Imperial Government to encourage a militarist feeling in Australia. Received 1.3 a.m., February Ist. THE MARAROA. Arrived—Mararoa, from New- Zealand. AN EXPLANATION. Mr See explains, in reference to the cable message sent by him to Mr Chamberlain, and approved by the Premiers of the other States, that it was in the nature of a protest against being placed in an inferior position at the coronation celebrations to the Premier of New Zealand. Mr See asked' that, the State Premiers be placed on a similar footing to the Premier of that colony, but not on an equal footing to the Federal Premier. .
