THE HOME MARKETS. The Agent-General's telegram, received at "Wellington yesterday, dated London, January 20th, "is as follows :—" There is •no alteration in the mutton market since last week. The Knmara's new seasons lambs, brands other than Canterbury, realised 5d to S?d. There is no alteration in beef. Butter is steady at 106s; Dan- " ish. 108s; cheese, 50s. Hemp is firm but quiet; good fair -Wellington, spot, £34 10s; February-April shipment, £;>:> 10s. Cocksfoot is firm, but the market- is inactive at 405." Messrs Dalgetv report, under date Lon- - -don, January 21st, as follows :— '* The: second series of wool sales opened to-day, -with a fair selection. There was a very large attendance of buyers, and the competition was animated. As compared with the closing rates of last series, prices of finest merino are higher by 2£ per cent., and other descriptions of merino by 5 per cent. Fine crossbred wools are higher by 5 per cent, and other descriptions of crossbred bv 5 per cent, to 10 per cent. The demand" is chiefly for greasy crossbred wools, lustrous descriptions." GERALDINE LITE STOCK SALE. There was a large attendance at the Geraldine fortnightly live stock sale yesterday, when there was a very good entry and. a record sale, nearly every line being disposed of under the hammer. There was an exceptionally good entry of lambs, which sold well." Cattle-—166 head of fat cattle were yarded, mostly light to handy weights, ■with a few good steers. There was a dull sale, and a decline of Is per 1001b, beef ruling at 17s to 245. Steers brought £6 12s 6d to £8 10s, prime £9 to £ll, heifers £5 5s to SS ss, cows £5 5s to £7 10s. Sheep.—About 3000 fat sheep were penned, mostly ewes. Freezing wethers were in good demand, selling from 13s to 16s 9d, heavier no to 17s id, and ewes easier. Best sorts 12s to 14s, good lis to 12s 6d, others 8s to 10s 6d.
