TEMUKA FLOWER SHOW.

The annual show of the Temuka Floral and Horticultural Society was held on Thursday last in the Volunteer building-5, Temuka. The entries were less than usual, but fully representative of the district. There was a good attendance of the general public in spite of some counterattractions. The judges expressed themselves as being struck with the display of fruit and vegetables, Mr Gimblett, who made his first visit to the district, making special mention of the general quality of the exhibits. The judges of fruit and flowers were Messrs Jones (Christchurch) and Sealey (Ashburton); vegetables, Mr W. Gimblett (Christchurch); cookery, Mr Barford (Timaru); paintings and drawing, Mr J. Sterndale; fancy work, Mrs J. Hay and Miss Beswick. The committee entertained the judges at the Star Hotel, where Mr Lyons prepared an excellent repast. After lunch an adjournment was made to the hall, where the exhibits were reviewed.
