THE FEDERAL PARLIAMENT

Per Press Association, United Press Association—Per Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received 10.12 a-m., October 11th. MELBOURNE, October 11. The Immigration Restriction Bill, which kas reached the Senate, is likely to cause the first difficulty between the two Houses. An amendment has been proposed similar to that rejected by the House, excluding coloured labour absolutely. There is no reasonable chance of such being passed. It is hardly likely that the censure motion will be successful, but it is expected to materially aid the committee in adjusting the tariff to the revenue needs of Australia. The Freetrade party, who dominate the Senate, are talking of demanding a direct vote on the tariff. Received 1.24 a.m., October 12th. In the Federal House, Mr Reid gave no•flce of' motion challenging the Tariff proposals. The House adjourned till Tuesday. Received 1.54 p.m., October 11th. SYDNEY, October 11. A duty equal to a shilling a bunch has beenplaced on bananas, and presents a, serious outlook for Fiji planters, who now have only New Zealand to look to for a market. HOBART. October 11. Much resentment is felt against ■ the tariff. In the Legislative Council, Mr Henry, formerly Colonial Treasurer, denounced Sir G. Turner's suggestion with regard to granting a loan as an insult to the State. If that was all the assistance the Federal Government could give they . could have dose without it.
