garrisons, and proclaimed himself Caliph of Arabia. ' Received 9.23 a.m., May 7th. THE COREAN LOAN. Corea has pledged the Customs duties as security for the recent loan of 5,000,000 yen. A French and Russian syndicate •retains 500,000 yen as a fund to establish a bank. FINED FOR MURDER. The Sultan of Jubal pays a fine in connection with the murder of Mr Jemier, the British Sub-Commissioner, by the Ogadain Somalis in November last. The Indian troops who were sent to punisln the Ogadain rebels remain in Jubuland until the fine is paid. Received 10.5 p.m., May 7th. THE COAL TAX. As many miners are opposed to a general strike against the coal tax, a conference of miners' representatives decides the matter to-day. Received 10.5 a.m., May 7th. FRENCH ORDER FOR COAL. The French Transatlantic Steamship Company has ordered 120,000 t.>ns of Welsh coal, undertaking to bear the ti»x. POLITICAL. BERLIN, May 7.
