Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 6. The complete census returns for Rodney County are 3673, • an increase of 209 over 1896; Waitemata County 7027, an increase of 265. As a result of the enquiry touching the recent fire at Waikino, whereby five places were destroyed, a man named Edward Williams, whose fancy goods depot was also burned, was brought before the police court to-day on a charge of arson, bnt at the request of the police was remanded to Waihi for eight days, bail being allowed. The verdict of the jury at the enquiry was—" That Edward Williams did set fire to his place at Waikmo." They also added a rider to the effect that the action of -Mr G.
