The demand is steadily improving,. and there are good prospects for the opening sales on the 15th. The second sale of tho series will open on the 12tli March, and is limited to 200,000 bales, and the third sale of the series, on the 13th April, is. limited to 250,000 bales. Received 11.32 a.m., January sth. The wheat market shows a sharp riss, American is hardening the markets. Amo* rican red winter is quoted at 834 oonts. Business in cargoes is firm but quiqt, Victorian and New South Wales JanuaryFebruary shipments are quoted at 50s 6d, parcels 29s to 29s 3d. Sugar is dull; German, 9s; first marks granulated, 10s 10id. Copper is nominal ; months, 73j>. , - Pig iron, 58. Lead, 16J. ! , Spelter, 18$. V , The market for butter firm; and a good "business is doing. Colonial is quoted at 108s to 110s, a few boxes 112s; Danish, 128s, with a strong demand owing to short supply. The' Bradford wool market is very firm; common sixties, 18$; super, 19£..
