10 THE EDITOR OP THE TIMARU HERALD, Sir— ld your issue of the 17th inst. there is a letter under the signature of " Education," reflecting on the action of the Committee of the Waimate District High School, m recommending a female assistant to fill the vacancy caused by Mr Thomas' resignation. I cordially endorse all that he said on the subject, and it would be a thousand pities were the Board to take this retrogade step. The school has always been noted for its efficiency and good work, and to place a female assistant m charge of such an important class as Standard IV. would militate against its utility and success. It is a mystery when the Committee met, and who were the members present, who sent the recommendation for the change, as it was not reported m the local papers, and the fi»st intimation of euch was the report of the Board's meeting. Hoping wiser eounaels will prevail, so that the school \ may maintain its standard of efficiency. I am, etc., Householder. I -
