TIMARU FLORAL SOCIETY.

— —^ The 28th annual meeting of the Timaru Floral and Horticultural Society was held last evening m the Borough Council Chambers. Present— Mr C. T. H. ' Perry (president), Messrs Orwin, Lewis, ! Gibson, Mair, Whittaker, Kerr, Petrie, | Allen, Pallieer, Harrip, Schn,idt, Foden, 1 Beswick, Harney, Atkinson, Butt, Smith, Grandi, and Lough (lion, sec.) The committee reported with pleasure that the year's operations had been most satisfactory. The late exhibition was un- , precedented, both for number of entries i and for the quality of the exhibits; for . the interest evinced m the competition ; m floral designs, and also for the financial results, for after paying nil prizes m full, nnd all liabilities, a credit of £9 i 9a remained, this being the largest credit . balance ever heid sine.'; the society waa ! established. The ivwult proved that the interest iv the society fßis unabated. > The committee recorded their sincere t thanks to all who gave assistance by liberal contributions for special prizes, to those who bo ably acted as judges, presided over the refreshment stalls, or made contributions of refreshments ; ' and to all who contributed to the euc- | cess of the exhibition by giving time and. assistance. The committee hoped that 1 their efforts had given satisfaction, and hoped that similar iiberal support would be accorded to their successors. Expenditure— Special prizes £22 Us, 1 society's do. £25 13.-% judges' railway ' fares and luncheon £2 17s, advertising ■ and printing £10, music £2 4s 6d, cart- > age £1 18s 6d, rent and gas £7 2s Id, cer- > tiflcateß £1 43 6d, postage, etc., £3 3s> * honorarium to secretary £5 5s ; total - £82 Bs7d. Credit balance m bank £9 9s. Report and balance eheet were adopted.

A notice of motion by Mr Allen, was seconded by Mv Knowles, and c »rried - "Tint the annuil general meeting be altered to the first week m March instead of m Jane." A notice of motion by Mr Schmidt, wag seconded by Mr Harris and carried, amending rule 4, line 4, so that a member's ticket shall admit a member and two ladies. It was also resolved, on the motion ol Messrs Allen and Petrie, to add to rule 4, that a 2s 64 member's ticket be issued to ladies, and allow of three exhibits free. it was moved by Messrs Beswick and |Orwin, and carried— "That it be a recommendation to the incoming committee to consider the advisability of instituting an early spring show of bulbous flowers, etc." The election of officers followed, with ihe following result :- Patrons — Yen. Archdeacon Harper, Hon. W. HallJones, M.H.R., Messrs. 0. A. VVmy, II A. I/-Cren, and J. S. Keith. President —Mr 0. T H. Perry (re-elected). Vicepresidents Messrs J. 8. Gibson, J. Jackson, S. F, -Smiihaon, J. iVlair, J. Lewis, and R. McQueen. Committee —Messrs F. Smith, Allan, Beswick, Harris, Grandi, Knowles, Whittaker, Petrie, Schmidt, Palliaer, Foden, and Uarney. Mr E. H. Lough was proposed for reelection as hon. focretary, but he declined owing to the increase of his municipal duties. It was moved by Messrs J. S. Gibson and F. Smith— "That as a slight recognition of the past services of Mr Lough as secretary, he be elected a life member of the society."— The president and several members spoke warmly of the loug and valuable services of Mr Lough to the society, of which he has been secretary since its establishment 28 years ago, and the motion was carried with applause, and was duly acknowledged by Mr Lough. Mr R. Orwin was unanimously elected secretory. Mr Blackmore was re-elected treasurer, Mr Lough declining nomination for this post also. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring committee, and another to the Tima 1 v Borough Council for the use of a room for meetings. A vote of thanks to the president closed the general meeting. A meeting of the officers and committee was then held, and Mr F. Smith was unanimously re-elected chairman. The meeting then closed.
