GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

♦ The monthly meeting of the Geraldine Road Board was held yesterday, Present— Messrs J. Kelland fchairman), P. W. Studholme, K. Brophy, A. Metcalf, and J. M, Barker. Mr Alexander Maxwell asked that a road be formed for 60 chains from Smith's house, Kakahu.— The overseer to inspect. Mr R. T. W. Sercombe drew attention to Taylor's road, and made suggestions for its improvement.— The overseer is to report. Mrs Wigley objected to pay expenses of deviation of road between section 19446 and 20121.— The Board will arrange wfth Mr Smith, the surveyor. The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board's contribution was passed for payment. The overseer was authorised to arrange with Mr Barklie re drain tiles and shingle he required at the entrance to his property. The overseer's report was read and considered satisfactory. It was resolved tf> attend to Temple's road m the spring. Mr Studholme spoke strongly about the number of stray cattle on roads, and thought the ranger's attention should be drawn to the matter. A petition signed by 59 influential ratepayers was presented to the Board, asking them to reconsider their decision re asking the clerk and overseer to resign, They looked upon him as a very able and ! competent man for the position, and one who carried out his duties without fear or favour. Mr O'Malley remarked that he would rather the Poard would adhere to their decision, as he wished to retire. The Board regretted they could not see their way to accede to the request of the petitioners, and it was decided to advertise for a clerk and overseer.
