TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The Temuka School Committee met on Tuesday evening. There were present, Messr3 G. Hancox, G. Levens, C. BaUs, J. Grant and Dr Hayes. Apolo- ' giea for non-attendance were received from VTessrs Blyth and Miles. Dr Hayes was voted to the chair. Correspondence was read from Mr A. E. G. Rhode-", and Mr F. R. Flatman, M.H.R., covering donations to the priz^ fund. The secretary was instructed to thank these gentlemen for their kindness, and a vote of thanks was also passed to all other contributors to the fund. From the Board of Education inviting nominations for vacancies on the board. It was agreed to nominate Messrs J. Sim ( Temuka) and P. Keddie (St. Andrews). ! From thesame,covering consent to committee inviting applications for a pupil | teacher, if the attendance warranted ( same. It was resolved to advertise ' for a male pupil teacher; applications to be m on the 20th February. The Board advised payment to the committee's credit of 193, part cost of pump. . The headmaster reported that the quarterly attendance returns were as follows: — Highest attendance, boys 203, girls 148, total 351. Average 186 boys, 135 girls, total 321. The roll number on the 31st December was 342. On Monday when the school re-opened there was ] an attendance of 306 m the morning and 309 m the afternoon. The following day there were 317. Nineteen new pupils had been admitted. There was a good m- ' erense m the number of pupils taking ' seceudary subjects, the total being . 31. Of these 26 have passed standard VI , and live are m that standard and do . secondary work besides. Thenumborbe- ; ing over 20 entitles the school to another I pupil teacher. The reportjwas considered ! satisfactory. The accounuts to the I amount of £1 5s were passed for payment I and the meeting terminated. <
