The railway receipts between the beginning of the financial year (Ist April; and the 12th of Inst month, up to which date the accounts have been made up, exceed those for the corresponding period of last year by £52,000. The authorities believe that if the holiday and harvest traffic comes up to expectations, they will be able to show a most satisfactory result for the year's working. GREYMOTJTH, Dece mber 13. . Bartholomew Andrews, .21 years oi age, was drowned m a lagoon this evening. He could swim, and it is supposed that he was taken with; cramp when recroßsing the lagoon. Two companions who tried to rescue him were nearly drowned. His father and brother live at Hokitika. WESTPORT, December 13. Charles Solomon, aged 18, was thrown from a trap last night and killed. The horse had bolted. William Snow and Percy Barney have been arrested at Denniston for burglary at the Co-operative Butchery. CHRISTCHUROH, December 13. A nice rain, set m this morning, and it looks as though there will be a substantial fall, which is much needed just now. DUNEDIN. December 13. In the libel action, Murrell (chairman of the Cromwell Hospital Trust) v. Gilkison, proprietor of the Dunstah Times, claim £500, Mr Justice Pennefather gave judgment for £20 and costs on the lowest scale.
