BANDS CONTEST.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE TIMAUU HERALD. Sir,- I understand that our Garrison Band desire to. get to Dunedin for the contest, and purpose canvassing the town and district for assistance. It has . been customary for past . Mayors to assist m matters of this sort. The Garrison Band turn out often and discourse sweet music for the benefit of all and sundry, and surely the head of the town wiil assist the band by canvassing for them. Can vassers require to be popular men, and after the recent decision at the poll it is but fair to consider our Mayor elect a very popular man. The £1 Is he has been generous enough to donate to the band funds is nothing compared with the assistance he could give as a collector. I am, etc., Citizen. [Our correspondent, must be joking. It is not the Mayor's place to canvass for the band. Editor Timaru Herald.]
