THE ALBURY SETTLEMENT.

The Albury settlement will be open for application at the Land offices at Ghristchurch, Timaru, and Albury on and after the 12th inst. In this there are 14,141 acres of agricultural land in 74 blocks of from 25 to 990 acres, and 10,568 acres of pastoral land in four small runs, to each of which an agrii cultural lot has been assigned as a i homestead site. The greater part ' of the agricultural land lies in between i the Tengawai and Little Opawa rivers, a compact block between these streams and the railway, the Tengawai bending so as to define two sides of the block. \ There are about 1400 acres lying along the railway, west of the Tengawai, to ■ beyond Cricklewood, and another dei tached block on Coal Creek near Wins- > combe station, out of which a. number of small farms, 25's, 30's, 40's, and ten 50---i acres have been carved with some larger i ones. There are a few 50-aere lots on the ' Opawa-Tengawai downs, but this block i is cut up for the most part into larger i farms. Maps and schedules are now iri , circulation, and these must be referred i to for information as to the manner in which the estate has been sub-divided. Pamphlets giving a brief description of . each lot can be had on application at this office, or at the Land offices. The ■ ballot will take place at Albury ■ on the 22nd instant, and applicants will be examined as to their suitability, at Christchurch on the 15th, ; at Timaru on, the 19th, and at Albury on , the 21st.
