The ladies' prize presented to the company to be fired for by the single members was shot for on Saturday last, the winner being Gunner North. The conditions were 10 shots at 600 yards, and the highest scorers were : — 600 yds H'cp Tl. Gunner North 36 7 43 Gunner Holdgate ... 33 9 42 Gunner J. D. Robertson 34 7 41 P.O. Oborn ... ... 33 3 36 Gunner Brown ... ... 29 7 36 Gunner Burmester ... 25 11 36 Gunner Beckingham ... 34 — 34 In the course of a cricket match at Sydney between the Redforn and Papdington Clubs, the batsman (A. Hanigan) was interrupted m his play m order to be given the welcome news that the horse which he and a mate had drawn m a consultation on the Newmarket Handicap had run into second place, and enabled the lucky ticket-holders to net about £20.00. Hanigan played a splendid innings of 117 on the occasion ' referred to. His hitting, it is said, was a little reckless after receiving the message.
