The Premier drove Mr Seddon to various points of interest yesterday afternoon, calling at the principal polling booths. Mr Seddon visits Parramatta to-day. The Consul-General of France had a long interview with Mr Seddon to-day. The first question to engage attention was whether New Zealand would agree to send exhibits to the Paris Exhibition. Mr Seddon approved of the colony joining m the British Court and the B^eps to betaken to give effect to the scheme. The next matter dealt with was as to whether New Zealand would be prepared to permit the French Cable Company to have the use of the cable-repairing steamer Tutanekai, m ,the. event of any repairs being required to the Noumea cable. Mr Seddon said he would lay the proposal before the Cabinet on his return to New Zealand for a decision. M Seddon has been on a visit to Parramatta, and also inspected the Government dock, Cockatoo Island. v DYNAMITE EXPLOSION. , Brisbane, March 5. "What looks like a dastardly attempt to destroy property was made at the Golden Cave mine. When the fire was being replenished m the battery room an explosion occurred. It is presumed that dynamite had been concealed m the wood. Only small damage resulted, DAMAGE TO TELEGRAPH LINES. Adelaide, March 5. Advice has been received that the land lines to London are down, as the result of a gale, and messages are being sent to Plymouth by rail every few hours. GOLD DISCOVERY. Melbourne, March 5. Rich gold has been struck m the Highland chief mine, ITreeburgh, where 251bs of stone gave 21bs of gold. The reef is large and well defined. Other prospectors are obtaining large returns.
