The next Germpn mail packet leaves Melbourne 7th inst. Due at Berlin 16th January. Tbe next French mai' packet leaves Melbourne sth inst. Due at Marseilles on sth Jan., 1897. The next mail for the United Kingdom (via San Francisco), closes at Timaru on 23rd inst. ; due in London Jan. 27th. Ths next direct mail for the United Kingdom and Europe will leave Wellington, per Kimutaka, on 24th inst. ; due in London 2nd Feb., 1897. Mails for Tonga, Samoa and Fiji will close at Auckland, per Ovalau, on 16th inst. Mails for Fiji, Hawaiian Islands, Victoria (8.C.), Vancouver, Canada, and United States (connecting with Miowera leaving Sydney on 12th inst., and correspondence to be specially addressed per Miowera), will close at Auckland on 7th inst., at 4 p.m., for despatch per ftotomahana.
