CRICKET
A double bill was presented ■on the Winchester Cricket ground on Saturday last. At 1 p. in the Winchester School met the Milfovd boys and defeated' them bv 5 wickets and 39 runs, the scores being Milford 19, Winchester 58 for 6 wickets. Mrs H. E. Smith regaled the boys with tea and cake, and Messrs Hawkes and Steven acted as umpires. The Junior Clip match Winchester v. United B was timed to commence at 3 o'clock, but the Timaru men did not arrive till close on 4 o'clock. The United B went in first, and were all disposed of for 29 runs, Shiels 10, not out, being the only one to reach double figures. A. Bhallard took 5 wickets for 10 runs and P. Shallard 5 for 14 runs. Winchester replied with 92 runs. 0. Opie 10, A Shallard 14, F. Shallard 17, T. b. Hart 13, W. Moon 16, and J. Shallard, 11 not out played well for their side. For the United Ker took 6 wickets for 20 runs, and J. Beckingham'3 for 26 runs. Mrs H. E. Smith and Mrs H. Shallard supplied delicious afternoon tea. . Messrs Fergusun and C. Fanthorpe of Temuka made excellent umpires. The annual cricket match between the Waitaki and Timaru High Schools was played at Oamaru on Saturday, and resulted in a win for the former by 74 runs on the first innings. though the Waitaki boys seemed quitea home on it. The scores were : Wai tai 111 (Suttoh 15, Jones 16, Houghton 2f Miller 23, G. Thompson 18, not out; Sealey took 5 wickets for 33, Howell 4fo 38, and Raymond 1 for 22. Timaru pnl; scored 35 (Blunden 17, Raymond 7, Ten nentß). E. Thompson took 4 for 9 Houghton 5 for 20, and Sutton 1 for 5.
