At a meeting of the City Council to elect delegates for the conference to--1 morrow, to settle the day for the weekly ■ half-holiday, the Council declined by S to Bto elect delegates. The Mayor has telegraphed the state of affairs to the Minister of Labour. NAPIER. January 17. The Borough Council last night fixed Wednesday for the half-holiday. WELLINGTON, January 17. The Minister of Labour desires to remind shopkeepers that the Act provides that m the event of any other day than Saturday being chosen by the 'local authority for the half holiday, the shopkeepers are entitled to close on Saturday instead, on giving notice to the inspector, during the month of January m each year. CHRISTCHURCH, January 17. At a meeting of representatives of the City Council, Linwood, Lyttelton, Sumner, and St. Albans borough councils tonight, Thursday was selected as the day for the half-holiday. ,
