f Thirty-two members of the above - company yesterday shot m the first . competition of Mr W. Hall-Jones' aggre r . gate trophy, the range trophy (Mr ;■ ■McGuinness') being won by Gunner North. The day was a rather muggy one for shooting, but m spite of ; that some very fair scores were put up. , The conditions wjere 10 shots at 300 . yards (small inner) any position. News was received at Buda-Pesth, on December Ist, of the almost total annii hilation by wolves of a party of wedding guests who were returning to their ' homes from the village of Hidas, where the ceremony which they had attended was performed. The route of the party lay through a dense forest. Soon after entering this forest cries of wolves ; were heard ; but, despite all efforts to escape, the party was overtaken by the animals, and 13— malefic numberunfortunates were dragged from the ; sledges and devoured. Few of those- , who succeeded m escaping were without injuries more Or less serious m their ; nature. The survivors made their way to the nearest village, and a relief party proceeded immediately to the scene of slaughter, where were found scattered about fragments of flesh, crunched bones, and scraps of clothing. The Chinese, Japanese, Malays, Siamese, and North American Indians are beardless.
