WELLINGTON, Sepxbmbke 27« Mr Murray has handed the following memo to the Press Association s— " Mr McLean, at tho Colonial Bank meeting yesterday, quoted from the last balance sheet of a certain bank, figures purporting to show the relative proportion of paid up capital and reserves to liabilities, making out the Colonial Bank to be m that respeot the strongest and the Bank of New Zealand the weakest bank m these colonies. Mr MoLean omitted to take into consideration the faot that since the Bank of New Zealand balance sheet was made up, £2,000,000, wbioh is m tho strictest sense capital, 88 liable for debts of the bank, has been added, making tho proportion of paid-up oapital and reserves of the Bank of New Zealand to liabilities 29*64 per cent, instead of 943 per cent, as he stated.
