News from the New Hebrides ahowß that the steamer Croydon towed H.M.S. Ringarooma off alone with the assistance of the cruiser's own engines. The French warship Daffault was disabled at the time owing to her having foaled the cable. THE NEW HEBRIDES. A private letter from the New Hebrides tfates that there is a confident feeling among the French residents that France will shortly annex the group. It ia possible that foundation for this feeling lies m the fact that a certain section of the Parisian newspapers recently asserted that Great Britain was by no means adverse to withdrawing from dual control providing the island was not used for oonfiot purpoßei. On the other hand the British community assert that the feeling of the Frenchmen is merely assumed.
