Clause 7 was amended so as to provide that tbe members of the staff of the advances to 5 settlors offices should be appointed by the Governor in-Oounoil instead of the Colonial Treasurer. Clause 15 relating to the general board, elicited a lengthy discussion but was paßsed without alteration. In olause 21 an amendment by Mr G W Busiell, that members of either House should • not be eligible for seats on the district boards t was lost by 33 to 19. . In clause 22— duties of the district board 1 —Mr BaraabftW moved an amendment allow* ing money to be advarced not only on land, but on all other propertie<. After a very long discussion Mr Ward moved to report progress, which was agreed to by 36 to 14. IN COMMITTEE. . The lands Improvement and Native Lands I Acquisition Bill was committedOn olause I— short title— Mr Earnehaw moved to alter the title to read " Crown Lands Improvement." After nearly two hours' discussion this was lost on the voices, and the olause passed. Olause 5 was altered so as to provide that not more than 200 acres be cllowed to any member of a working men's association as a prior right of lease. The Bill was under discussion when the telegraph office closed at 2 am.
