TO THE EDITOB OF THS TIMABU HBEALD. Sib,—ln your iesue of tbe 19th instant, Mr Solomon, the plaintiff's counsel, m opening her case, is reported to have seid that the transfer | of the lioense of tbe Club Hotel was obtained under " peculiar oiroumstanozß," by means of a " deliberate falsehood " to a member of the Licensing Committee ; that Dr LoY^grove (another member of iU.e committee) would haye signed the transfer, :l but ho was not at home." As I am personally ooncerned m this I matter through having waited upon, andi obtained the signatures of the two members of tbe committee to the transfer, I trust you will grant me space to give this statement a most unqualified denial. I enoloso a oopy of a memo signed by the two members of the Committee concerned, whioh I shall be glad if you will publish, and leave your readers to judge from it who has been guilty of " deliberate falsehood." Although I am aware thai counsel is permitted considerable latitude m addreaiing a jury, yet allegations suoh as those made by Mr Solomon, whioh reflaofc on personal oharaoter, should not be made when (as m the piesent instanoe) they are entirely without foundation iv faot, and in/ja^le %l proof,, latn, «to,.*; " l J,no\ Maicqmsok, Managing Clerk for Mr J W White.
