There was an im pr-vement in the attendance, but though it was gcod, it was not so large as wa. exneoted. The Hon, Mr Mclntyre, Victorian Minister of landa, was among thoae present. The placed horses took the last hurdle together, but Melton lasted longest and won by a length. Cajolery, the favourite, finished fourth. Jacob Faithful fell at the hurdle in front of the stand. Bangipuhi, 7st 121b ... 1 Prime Warden, Ost 61b 2 Skirmisher, Bit 51b 3 There was a oapital start, and as they passed the stand Liberator and Captive were in front. Bangipuhi went through at the five furlong post, and half a mile from home was two lengths to the good. Here Dilemma was taken up. and he and Bangapuhi led into the straight. There was a magnificent struggle up the etraight, but Skirmisher died away to nothing in the last few atridea, and Bangipuhi won by a bead from Prime Warden, 1 witb Skirmisher a length away, third.
