SOUTH CANTERBURY CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

# The annual business meeting of the members of tho South Canterbury Caledonian Sooiety was held laßt evening m the Arcade offices. Mr A. 0. Pringle, the president, occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. During the year an office for the secretary and a dressing room for the oom* petitora have been buiit on a suitable site on the ground, and should bo of great benefit on sports days In placo of tbe annual concerts at New Year the drama Bob Boy was givon by Timaru amateurs under the able direction of Mr Sidney Wolf, and wos the greatest success m every way. Though the cost of production was large the net result waß a fairly good profit to the Hocitty. Thera have been during the year 13 meetings of directors, whioh have been well attended. The retiring directors are—Messrs D. tituart, D Mahoney, J. Meikle, W. Kvano, W. Priest, B. Hall, P. Sinclair, T. Harnoy, and T. Henderson (deceased). Your directors have to regret tbe death of Mr Thomas Henderson, a former president and a director who had always the welfare of the Sooiety at heart. In accordance with a recommendation of a committee the engagement with Mr Sydney H. Davies as secretary, was terminated on 6ih March, 1893, and on applications being called under revised Bfooifioation of duties, Mr Andrew Allen was elected the Society's secretary. In conclusion your directors have to congratulate the Sooiety on tbe oontinued suooess of the gatherings, and to wi«h the members overy suocess m the future." The balance sheet having been read, the president formally moved the adoption of tbe report and balance sheet. He said that the Society had got along very well, and had mado excellent additions to the permanent improvements on tbe ground. He had to thank the directors for the able and cordial support they had given him, and to express the hope that the coming year would be as pleasant a one as the laat. Mr T. Harney had pleasure m seconding the motion for adoption. The motion on being put to the meeting was carried unanimously. There were 12 vacancies on the directorate, and fifteen candidates were nominated. Tho voting resulted m the election of Messrs P. Sinclair, W. Priest, F. Palliser, T. Harney, D. Mahoney, J. Meikle, W. Svane. D. Stuart, K. Hall. G. P. Wood, J. Mundell, and J. Orera.r. A motion by Mr B f Davies, recommending an increase of salary to the secretary, was after an animated discussion, put and lost. Mr D. Stuart was, on the motion of Mr Priest, unanimously re-elected, tbe Society's auditor, aud tho business of the annual meeting closed. A dirootors meeting was then held. Mr W. Priest was, on the motion of Mr A. 0. Pringle, clioaen as President, and Mr Prioßh oardially thanked tbom for the honour they had done him. In rotiring Mr PriDglo once more thanked them for tbe help he had received during the year, and said that, m offico or out of office, he would always do his best for tbo Sooiety. Mr Kmil Hall and Mr R. H. Ferguson were elocted the vice presidents, and Mr F. Cameron was unanimously elected hon. treasurer. Standing committees vero chosen as follows : —Ground coin;nitt;>e—Messrs H'irney, Palliser, Sinclair, Oumcron and Hall; concert committee—Morars Gunn, Ferguson, T. Fringlo, Orerar, acd Cameron; programme committee — (music and dancing) Messrs Ferguson, Mcßride, and Egan ; (running, walking, and oycling), Messrs Mahoney, Hall, and Cameron ; (general sports), Mossri A. 0. and T. Pringle, Stuart, Caldwell. and Orerar. A sum of nearly £300 was allotted these committees as prize moneys. Mr J. Meikle wub unanimously reohoaen as starter, and on the motion of &£r E H.all a very hearty vote of thanks was passed to. the hop. handioappors; Messrs Mahoney and Cameron cordially acknowledging the vo'o. Mr Qeorge airauhuu was elected a rnomber of the Soeipty. A little routine business was trausaoted and the meeting oloeed.
