A meeting of tho local branoh of the Railway Servants' Society on Saturday was attended by 160 men, mos'.ly from the Hillside workshops Tho following resolution was carried : — ''That this meeting Btrongly opposes any special insurance eohemo for tbe railway service, and is of opinion that the desire of tho Oomrninsionera to see their employees insured cau be more satis fcotorily mot by pissing an Act requiring that every railway employee shall within six month after entry on the bjoke of the survioe ac s permanent emyloyeo insure m oome one of the insuranoe offices doing business m the colony, leaving it with the employee to choose the office m which he will insure" A second resolution strongly condemning the aotion of the railway men who took part m the Wellington conference was put and declared carried by the chairman, but many of thoße present tsesert that tho voica of the disaan tienta, who were m the majority, was not taken
