Clarence street, and the basement was burnt out before the flames conld be extinguished. Extensive damage was caused to the contents of the store by smoke and water. The stock was insured for £150,000. aud the fe-a.lding for £45,000, the policies being scatter-ad • over thirty offices, including the South _B.itish offioe, which haa a risk of £0000, and the New Zealand office ono of £4000 The extent of the damage has not been ascertained. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN FINANCE. ADELAIDE, 00t.'25, In tha Legislative Assembly to-day, the Premier enunciated the policy of the Government.
