MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

A meeting of this Board woa held on Friday, Bept. 16th. Members present — Mtesrs C. Tripp, CX J. Denniatoun, B. Thow, and R. Mcick«y. A considerable amount of corrospondoncs was read and considered. Tho Awatero Boad Board wrote eondiug cop 7of petition protesting against subjidii'B to local bodies heiDg done away with — The clisirmnn signed this "potitien and it was forwarped to Mr A. E. G. Bhodes. M.H.R. A communication on the fame subject was received from tho secretary of the Honth Canterbury Hospital and Charitablo Aid Bonrd. Proposed by Mr Denniatoun, and seconded by Mr Maokay — "That the resolution to strike a rate, of which notice was given, at tho meeting of tbo Board on the 18th August, be now confirmed."— Carried,

The question of political influonce m managing railway matters waa then fully discussed, and the following resolution was carried unanimously--" That this Board is or opinion that it would be a great mistake to allow any political interference whatever m tho mansgomont of the railways." Tho following resolution was then brought forward by Mr Thew— "That the dork be instructed to prepare and lay on the table for 1 the information of the Board and ratepayers, a quarterly detailed statement of expenditure m eaoh distriot, namely Mount Peel, Baincliff, Clayton, and Sherwood Downs, tbe same to be entered m the minutes." Tbe members present considered this unnecessary as the ratepayers have a right to inspect the books at any time m offioe hours. Tho matter then dropped, as Mr Thew could not get a seconder. Mr Booth wrote asking the Board to improve the road to the bush he had bought from Mr Tripp. — Tho overseer to inspect the work with Mr Dennistoun. The tender of Thomas Oorkery for breaking 1 metal at Bainoliff wa« accepted. The tenders for work on Clarke's cutting were held over until next Board day. i Besolved—" Ihut the clerk be granted £5 1 towards ooat of erecting washhouge and copper."
