WESLEYAN SUNDAY SHOOL.

Tho anniversary tea of the Wes^eyan Sunday School was held m tho schoolroom last evening. About 200 children, teacher/", parents, and friondj partook of an excellent tea, a number, which no doubt would have been much larger but that the weather was so boisterous and threatening. Tbe tables were presided over by Mesdames Dale, Bundeeen, Whittakor, Gilobrist, Bezzunt und Kllis, and Misses Dale (3), Whittuber, Foster (2), Blaokinoro (2), and Ellis (2). Tbe business meeting held m the church afterwards was fairly attended, the unfavourable weather keeping many away, The Bey. W. J. Williams presided, and the Bey. W. Oliver was present and gave an address. The usual reports wero presented. Tho secretary's general report stated that tbe school continues to prosper and inoreaso m numbers under tho able, leadership of Mr W. H. Jones. During the year a considerable sum had been expended m increasing the accommodation ani makiag other improvements to the building. This undertaking neceesttutod v special effurt to rnise funds, and receipts from a cantata, " Under tho Palms," had enabled them to carry on. The number of scholars on the roll was 313, and the average attendance 223. Th» number of teachers and officers was 23, and the average attendance was 18. The treasurer's report showed a total of receipts £67 13» 10 f, of which the larger portion was derived from - collections at previous nm iveroa-r, £19 10j 4d ; proceeds qf tea, £20 7« QJ ; and of picnio. £18 3s 9d. During the year there had been a great demand for books, the issues totalling over 2000. The Band of Hope connected with the school was reported to be m a very satisfactory condition, the average attendance at 13 meetings during the year being 67, and great interest was taken m the gatherings by the younger members. The reports wore adopted. During the evening the school children sang a number of Yorkshire pieces specially composed for such ocsoßi >ne, and conducted by Mr Gilchrist, acquitted themselves woll.mnoh pains and intelligence having been bestowed on their preparation. The choir also gave thoir assistance, and what with the remarks pf the reports, the addresses of the Ministers, and the' liberal programme of musip, all following a bountiful tea, and interesting and pleasant evening was Bpent.
