Sib, — It is commonly reported that the swans are being robbed of their eggs wholesale at Wainono, or Studholme lake, as usual. As an instance a man (whose name was given to the writer) from the Hook is reported to hove gathered about 230 eggs between 3 and 4 a.m. last Snndoy morning. It is Btated that tho eggs are Generally sold to the bakers and confeotioners. I hove been taught that the reoeiver is aa bad ob the thief. If so, could not the police look out for these I honest tradesmen ? It is patent to anyone that the Bwans are becoming scarce m thia district Co what they were 7 or 8 yearß ago, and it is not the number, tbat haa been shot that is thinning them bo. In faot it is very rare that a signet is shot nowadays ; but a dry lough old " joker," that, did we not know better, we should think had beon introduced by Captain Cook. I am, etc., Shot,
