MAKIEIHI SCHOOL CONCERT.

A concert whioh was given m the Makikihi School last Friday week, m aid of the sohoo)|funds, passed off satisfactorily. There was a fair attendance, whioh no doubt would have been much larger had the state of the weather permitted. But though the attendance was not commensurate with the excellence of the performance the people who did patronise it appreciated it. This year a new departure was made, all the musioal talent being looal. Xhareßulfc justified the experiment. The audience were kept m the best of humour and by frequent rounds of laughter and applause manifested their approval. The entertainment took the form of a Christy Minstrel performance, ending with a farce. The company consisted of Messrs M. Byan, 3. Ryan, Waters, Buohanan, O'Dowd, F. MclUwrick, A. Blackmore and H. Taylor. Great praise is due to Mr M. Byan for the tima and trouble be had .taken m training some of the performers. The pianoforte accompaniments were played by Miss Childß, assisted by her brother Mr F. Ohildsf on the violin. The Btage was taatefully deoorated by Mrs Childs and the loan of some flags from Mr Morgan helped very much the general effect. A ball was held after the entertainment, and was well attended, and dancing was kept up till an early hour m the morning. The affair yielded » nice little sum for the school funds. It is a matter for commendation that the members of the school committee took an active part m assisting m the arrangements, Mr Obilds, the chairman, being particularly energetic. •
