Mr Iqhii Winterboltom, who has conipletsd 21 jwt.pt "service m the Boyal Marine Artillery bo, bandmaster, has just retired from it to take' Up tho appointment, of bandmaster of tbe''iOtb','Middlesex (Artists) Volunteer I corps., Jrtf om 1799 to the present time, Mr Wint'erpi)ftom's family, who came from Haddleworth, Yorkshire, have (according to a writor m Lloyd's A'qvis). put m the unique service, m I tho afiny.snd ».avy, of 213 years. His great uncle (John Winterbottom), who enlisted as a private, iv the 62nd JKi'gimont m 1799 «ac given a commission as eueign and adjutant for gallant oonduct m tho Peninsular War m 1608, having fought with great distinction at Uadajdz and also at Waterloo. His maternal grandfather was SO years ia the Ist Life Guards, and as quartermaster of the regiment fought also at Waterloo. His father served 21 years m the let Life Guards, and was the first sword instructor of the army ; his portrait, by command of William IV., was painted and hung io the Waterloo Gallery at ■ Windsor. Mr Winterbottom's throe brother's have all been bandmaßterj, and the four have put m a hundred years' service.
