PRESBYTERY OF TIMARU.

The quarterly meeting of the Presbytory was held on Tuesday ot 11 a.m. Tlmre were prosent tho Revs J, McKea (moderator), W. Gillies, J. Clarke, and A. B. Todd. Commissions m favour of Mi'6Brs S Mcßrido and James Wileon, elders, were received and sustained. The Key J. Waters, at present supplying Temuka, was associated. On the motion of Mr McXeo, seconded by Mr Todd, tho Presbytery passed tho following motion with regard to the clerkship: — "The Presbytory, m accepting the resignation of Mr Gillies as clerk, do bo with great regret. They desire to place on record their high appreciation of the many invnluable services which he has rondored to ths Presbytery and to the oause of Prosbyterianinm m South Canterbury during tho long period of sixteen years. Specially they reofpnue Iho great help given to the Preebytsry through his intimate acquaintance with ecclesiastical law and forms of procedure. By meanß of this, his wisdom ond experience were of great, service m guiding the Prnabjtory m their deliberations. Duties were always discharged with unfailing oourteay and reaiinrsn, punu tualtty and regularity; boih iv public and prirato, Mr Gillies was ever ruady to help brethern with words of kindly counsel. I heir oarnost prayer is that he tnay ho long spared among (horn t> continue tho good work which owes so much of its suocjosj to his abilities." Mr Gillies was then nppointcd Moderator for the ni'xt twelve montha, and took the chair. Mr McEee, as Moderator, reported as (o tho work being done at Otaio. Mr C.impnell, who hca conducted services there for some months, being proaont, gave a very oncourflging report of Iho attendance at thsao services, nnd the interest manifented by tho people of tho district. A motion was passed " roeignining, with gratitude the services rendered by Mr Campbell, and oncouraging him to continue the good work." Members of tho Presbytery were requested to arrange with the moderator to give an occasional supply at Otaio. An interim session was appointed for Otaio consisting of Mr Campbell and Mr Tully, elders. A call from Floanant I'oint to the Rev J. M. Simpson mm laid on tho table, und a letter from Mr Simpson, stating that ho had accepted a call to Sydonham.— It was accordingly resolved to fall from the oill and to intimate tho same to tho congregation at. Pleasant Point. Mr Clarke roportcd that a neßsion had been formed m Muokonzio Country chargo, also that a mansa had boon built which would soon bo ready for occupation. Letters from oonvoners of assembly committees wore read, drawing attention to several matters of importance. These were duly attended to, and somo routine business transacted. It was agreed that Goraldino should bo visited at noxt ordinary meeting ou the second Tuesday of Octobor j tho Presbytery to meat with tho office-bearers m tho forenoon to hold a conferonoo oa the state of religion, and morals m the afternoon, and to meet, with tho congrogation m tho evening.
