A NEW OCEAN STEAMER.
The steamship Ruahino, the vessel now being boilt by the Fairfield Shipbuilding Company on the Clyde, to the order of the New Zealand Shipping Company, will be a really magnificent vessel. It is understood that the •Ruahine is bufc the pioneer of a larger and even more magnificent class of boats than those already engaged iv the trade. The Kuahino will be 6100 tons register, or eq-aal m size to the Orient liner Ormuz, and like that handsome vessol will have a straight stem, instead of the cut-away bow characteristic of the other vessels of this fleet. She will be about the same length as the Shaw Saville and Albion Company's fine steamer Arawa, about 410 ft, but to get her increased tonnage will have much more beam. Her saloon like that of most modern ocean liners will be amidships, where the vibrations of the screw do not disturb the comfort of the passengers, and where the motion of the vessel is not felt so mnch as m other_ parts of the ship. Her triple expansion engines will drive the vessel at the rate of seventeen or eighteen knots per hour. It i 3 also stated that the New Zealand Shipping Company intends afc an early date to enlarge it 3 other steamers to a size approaching that of the new boat. The Buahine is expected to leave London for New Zealand m Novomber.
