THE BACCARAT SCANDAL.

In the House of Commons to-day, tho Hon. E. Stanhope, Secretary of State for tho War Department;, m replying to a question asked by Mr W. Summers, M.P. for Hudderafield, said that tho Prince of Wales, nonr that hia attention had been called to the regulations, and looking back at all the circumstances of tho caae, admitted that ho had committed nn error of judgment m not advising Sir W. Gordon Gumming to submit his caso to his Oommnnding Officer.

The Daily Chronicle, referring to the recent official statements m tho House of Commons, says that Mr Stanhope has gone out of his way to place a cushion to soften the fall of the Prince of Wales. Other monarchs are soldiers, but the Prince has never served a campaign, therefore ho might at least be expected tc honour the uniform which he wore.
